Pre-Conference Workshop (18-19 July 2005)

A 2-day pre-conference workshop on "Critical Thinking" will be conducted by Professor Peter Facione and Associate Professor Noreen Facione from USA . Topics for this workshop include:

  • Teaching for critical thinking and teaching about critical thinking.
  • Assessment of critical thinking.
  • Decision-making, cognitive heuristics and decision-making in everyday leadership.

Keynote Address ( 20 July 2005 )

The keynote addresss entitled "Critical Thinking in Everyday Decision-Making" will be delivered by Professor Peter Facione.

 

Conference-Plenary Sessions (20-21 July 2005)

Lectures will be presented on topics related to the following areas of focus:

  1. Strategic Direction for Nursing Education
    • Evidence-based curriculum
    • Teaching and assessing critical thinking
    • Problem based learning
    • Developing faculty competencies
    • New teaching/learning and evaluation paradigms

  2. Strategic Direction for Nursing Practice
    • Evidence-based clinical practice
    • Genomics and it's implications
    • Quality and safety of care
    • Nursing-sensitive quality outcome indicators
    • Harnessing technology in clinical practice
    • Innovative models of nursing care

  3. Strategic Direction for Nursing Administration
    • Leadership for the future
    • Innovative recruitment and retention strategies
    • Effective staffing principles, models and norms
    • Risk management

Educational Visits (Optional)

Educational visits to local healthcare institutions will be organised at 1400 hrs on 21 July 2005.

 

Post-Conference Workshop (22-23 July 2005)

A 2-day post-conference workshop will be conducted by Associate Professor Donna Boland from the University of Indianapolis, USA. Prof. Boland consults in the areas of curriculum design and evaluation, and personnel assessment. She will focus on the current trends of developing a humanistic curriculum to prepare nurses of the future. She has worked with various universities to develop nursing curricula. She has also published and presented papers on faculty evaluation, computerized decision-making, curriculum and teaching evaluation approaches.

 

Call for Papers/Invitation to Speakers

International and local speakers are invited to present papers/posters related to the identified themes and topics.
Abstracts should reach the Conference Secretariat by 28 February 2005 . Late submissions will not be considered.

Registration

Registration fee is S$100 per day. Registration fee from 1 June 2005 is S$150 per day.
